How would you feel if your working in a department at your company and dont get a check ? Well first you might need to check they have actually hired you...thats what happen to someone today.
I get a frantic call from a preparer of payroll at an off-site department. She swears left and right that did put in the hours and such. But on further inspection yea she paid someone alright but not the employee she thought. It was another employee who has DD and so well they probably thought today was early x-mas gift.
Similar names and similiar ss#. What are the chances?
So after a little research I call the department to tell them what happen and how to fix it and the payless employee happened to answer.
I start explaining and such and the employee asked a very important question , "So I'm working for free, huh?"

Today I get a call from an employee that for the past month has thought they have not gotten paid.
They called their dept and no response. They called the bursars office and no record of the check.
So I begin investigating and find that passing the buck is college wide.
Lets see first I call and they swear they can't find. So I ask them to check the transmittal but nothing. We hang up and I ask my boss what she thinks. She says tell them to check again because the report never lies. I called bursars again and by some miracle they found the documentation but still no check. I insist it must be there. The guy puts me on hold and then the phone rings again and Im transfered to someone else...THIS person says the young man who was helping me has left for the day, while I was waiting. sigh
She assures me she will help me and she does. I get the # of the person who signed for it but the phone just rings and rings for about 15 mins and eventually someone answers and the mystery solved.
Now only if I could find the employee to tell her , We, correction, I, found it.
At my company the superiors from other departments routinely forget to authorize their part-time employees and student assistants.
I guess as long as they(the superiors) get paid all is well.If it was them who weren't going to get paid they'd raise hell and DEMAND a check.
The system we have in place protects all full-timers though. Even if someone forgets to enter the necessary information,unless its Leave without pay, all full-timers check is guaranteed.
I just can't believe that even with the friendly reminders from my department there will still be many many employees not getting paid right before the holidays. I feel for them. I really feel for the little people.
An employee calls and says he has not gotten paid. I get his identifying # and look at his records. I ask him well from what I can tell you did get paid but to make sure that I am looking at the right screen pls give your job class identifier. "He's like what? Oh I dont have that. You cant just tell from from looking ?" I felt like saying no dumbass my crystal ball is in the shop. But I dont, thankfully. He tells me he will call me back. He doesnt. He gets his department rep to call instead and thankfully she is actually helpful in providing the necessary info.
The point is: Not sure. But if you are going to call that someone has not paid you, have some back up to your claim or some way we can research it.
Ok, so this lady calls and says that she received a check in the mail and cashed it. She explains that the bank gave it back saying it didn't go through...so I go and check and yes we did replace a check she had reported lost or stolen so I investigate further. It turns out that the replacement check was cashed by her but that apparently her dept found the lost check and mailed that to her as well. She went and tried to cash that one too but since a stop payment had been added she couldnt cash it. Dumbass!!!....She not only got the replacement check but wanted to TRY to cash the original check too...NICE!!
