This is the first time I have workd for such a small company. Upon first arriving, I began to notice many things went unchecked and were allowed to fester, but recently I am truly appreciating how widespread this level of incompetency really is:
1) Paycheck / Paystub Distribution
Last week, I was sent about 100 envelopes containing payroll information. I had no way of telling which were live checks and proceeded to email everyone to inform them to please pick them up as soon as possible.
I am not exactly certain how it happened, but they misinterpreted the email to say that they all contained live checks and began emailing and calling management about it. By the time I got wind of it, the whole thing got blown out of proportion.
I do not work in HR or was asked to distribute these things. They just sent them over and expected it to get done. Finally, I had to mail them all out to their homes, which is what HR should have done in the first place and avoided all the confusion!
2) Hotel Accommodations
Our Company customarily has consultants from overseas staying at hotels and corporate apts. For the past month, I have been sending the HR person in India a grid with her reservations of an impending trip. This email goes out to everyone planning a trip and their corresponding managers to update and correct the information as needed.
This woman waits until the last minute and when its time to cancel the reservation, a penalty is incurred to the Company budget under manager's credit card. She is pissed and sends me a nasty email.
I replied in a tone and went to her manager who also happens to be our team manager and his response is "you can't expect to mail out a mass email with an attachment and expect people to read it". So my question is then why the fudge am I sending it out if no one is reading it?
3) CFO's Admin. Asst.
This woman is very nice, friendly, and chipper, but a dingbat if there ever was one. She constantly makes stupid mistakes, such as returning mail that is clearly marked to go to India, or sending ppls paychecks to India and back, causes multiple conflicts on calendars, etc. Yet, no one says anything to her. I just don't get it!
