ESTRADA thanked such institutions as the Iglesia ni Cristo -- whose members are known to vote as a block in political elections -- for supporting his appeal for a medical furlough in the United States.
He noted that the Senate, the House, the Chinese business federations and the El Shaddai Catholic charismatic movement had also supported his request.
"I thank them for that, especially the Iglesia ni Cristo, which has been concerned about my health," he said. He said he communicated with the religious group "once in a while" to "thank them for being concerned about me."
"They are better than the [leaders] in the religion I profess. They have more compassion... humanitarian concern than the Catholic archbishops," said the 66-year-old former leader, who was born a Catholic. |
