I find it exhilarating. Here in Louisiana, we've had a competition going since about 1981. The current leaders have tallied 9 each. Of course, these were not all at the same time, but a lot of folks here can claim 4 or 5 species at a time - and that is what piqued my curiosity.
Of course, South America is in a class by itself. North America cannot compete, but we must celebrate those birds we have and appreciate each individual for its own sake. I have not observed a hummer at Casa ColibrÝ since 11 May, but I keep the faith and know they will come in their own good time.
