Salvia Mulberry Jam

We were at the University of Minnesota Arboretum in the Minneapolis area this past weekend. They have a nice annual garden and we were impressed with an excellent display of Salvia Mulberry Jam. Here is a low resolution close-up of the flowers:


and here is an overview of an impressive stand of plants:


Although you cannot easily see it in this photo that was taken with Michael's Ipod Touch, there is a male ruby throated hummingbird feeding from the flowers. (The hummer is on the left side of a flower, to the left of center and just above the level of the stone retaining wall.)

We were impressed with the height of these plants, some approaching four feet tall. They have not been that tall in our garden, but ours likely do not receive as many hours of sunlight. We will work to change that next year.
