I am more prone to find it growing along the shoreline of the Niagara River and the Erie Canal. In fract that is where I got my first seeds. As Ward said it will grow in moist shady to semi shady areas and not generally found in sunny dry areas. I just let mine pop up in spring and when they get about 6 inches tall I thin out the ones that I don't want. They have a very shallow root system and come out quite easily.
