      Nancy - You just taught me about the migration priority of hummers. It never occurred to me that their journey north is #1 priority even before mating and they probably don't mix those priorities.

      And you are right about not knowing if the birds I am seeing are the same birds or birds moving through. I can only assume and my assumptions may very well be incorrect. Color marking would be the only way to know for sure!

      I sure wished there was a local bander here in central Florida who would band from west coast to east coast in my state. I think there is a lot to learn about RTHs in Florida.

      Also thanks for the info about mother hummers. I didn't know if nectar was part of their diet when raising their young. I figured it must be for the energy to maintain their activity level. I knew they needed to hunt for insects to feed their young. I had read that protein was necessary for developing young. I don't think there is a harder working mother bird! They are amazing!
