Queen of the roost

Since the males have apparently departed for the south, the females now have full run of the feeders. Here, this one sits in the rain, guarding the feeders and chasing other females in much the same way as the males recently chased her.

Dave, your young lady appears to be well-fed. Methinks she'll be headed south 'fore long. Today is sunny down here though we've had a few days of nourishing rain. When I went out before daybreak, there was the slightest hint of autumn in the air.
