Got lucky this morning and caught this Tawny-bellied Hermit. Anyone know the fuscia flower? I think it´s from Brazil. Will post a better image of it later.

Geez! Look at the bill on that thing! Amazing what you see Peter! How do you get anything done? 60 degrees and birds like that flying around. I'd be outside all day long.

Peter, the pink flower is Justicia carnea, sometimes called Brazilian Plume or Pink Jacobinia. It is shaped just right for that long, curved bill.

From the Nectar Quest thread: Justicia carnea - 2 flowers yielded about 30 µL of 25.2% nectar.

Great pix as usual!!!!

I want a pink one!!!! My Justicia (SPI...), I can never remember the spelling & looks just like that only orange, is getting ready to put out some more blooms. It's loving the heat here, too!

(How does Momma feed her young? VERY CAREFULLY!!!) Looks like she would have to be careful not to spear the little darlings.

Peter, you should try to find the yellow-flowered Justicia aurea. Your hermits will love that one as well. It gets huge. Have you tried Puya?

Great shot Peter ! It reminds me of the huge Western Long-tailed Hermit I saw in CR, that bird was nectaring from Heliconias which was a real treat.
