My neighbor lady and I have the tall or stand up feeders.. and I have 2 Hummzingers.
This yr so far we only have one Hummer. We get so excited to see him morning and night.
I dont know where he eats in between time.. but many times he comes right up to our feeders
looks at it then flies off. How dissapointing. He sure knows how to hurt these two old ladies feelings .

All I can offer is my personal experience. I've only had one Hummzinger feeder, and I retired it because the birds prefer the Perky Pet feeders with yellow flowers on them. I'm sure there are folks that have had success with Hummzinger?

Hummzinger feeders

I only use hummzinger-type feeders because they are easy to clean and maintain. From what I have observed, hummers always seem to figure them out.

Here's a hummer outside my bedroom window a couple summers ago who took ownership of this hummzinger:

My perky pet feeders have always been a sure thing. If I try I new feeder, I still leave an old one up that they are use to. Eventually they get curious, and try out the new one.

My vote goes to the Perky Pet feeders too. The Hummzingers are much easier to clean but in my yard the Perky Pet ones are always being used.

That does sound strange,, I would sure be upset too If I spent all that money for a humzinger and they wouldnt even use it. I use just bottle type feeders of different brands. I have a first nature feeder that the hummers use a lot and the base of it is similer to the bowltype Ron showed above except mine has a bottle with it . I really coundnt imagine them not using it, if it didnt have the bottle.

I painted the flowers on mine with yellow craft paint. It has held up well. Saw 3 more at work today.

I am a newbie, but, I also have Perky Pet feeders and the birds really like them. Sorry to hear they are not feeding on your feeder.

Aleahh,

If I understand you correctly, you and your neighbor have both the bottle type and Hummzinger feeders. Correct? I don't think it's your feeders that's causing the hummer not to use them. How often do you change the nectar? Do you mix one part sugar to four parts water? Make sure you change the nectar twice a week. You might also want to put some flowers or hanging baskets out for the hummers, too. Salvia is a good choice. You can even do a big pot of it and they'll use it. Wal-Mart and Lowe's always have salvia.

I love the Hummzinger type feeders. I have one that was the first feeder I ever had, still works great. I like it because you can view the hummers from all sides. It never fails when they're using my bottle feeders they're on the wrong side for me to see them! I use both types, as well as other types.

One more thing, I'll bet the hummer(s) use your feeder more than you think! You can't always be standing there watching.

I have one hummer that uses the Oriole feeder, with 3 of the hummzingers in the yard. Normally I take it down at this time of year, because the Orioles don't use it when their nesting. It' a pain to clean and holds more nectar than I need for one little hummer, but what you going to do. I know if I swap it out for a wally feeder the Orioles will be back.

Aleah, Maybe you have cuphea ignea. This is the first year for Varity for me and so far it's a dud. When I had ignea, which has smaller flowers, the hummers could not pass it up and used it all the time.
