Dueling Hummers

This was a first for me. Went out after supper and two birds were fighting over the same hole in one of my three feeders. I was quite a sight. One flew away, the other one went to a branch, peeped for awhile and then went back to the feeder. Then a third one came and drank.

This might be the first time you got to see this dual but it will not be your last if you keep on watching those hummingbirds. They are like fighter planes when they get going at each other. You better not get too close or they will come after you and try to run you out of their territory. My hubby swears they come after his nose.

I can't tell you how many times I've almost been speared by dueling hummer beaks. My favorite watching spots are in major flight areas. Many times they get so close I can feel the wind from their wings and hear their wings clash. I think they get so caught up in war games they either don't see or care if a human is nearby. It's alot of fun to be so close to the action.
