..snake hiding in a Cypress vine.! Notice how much his head resembles the immature flower bud.

Yesterday, he 'hung out' all day in the Russelia equisetiformis.

I don't think they are harmful to hummers...

Alberto, yes, the hummers are still around. It is called a Green vine snake, but I moved it with the broom, though!

That's a scarry situation Patricia. When I was a kid, a few years ago, whenever we passed by someones house who had anykind of flowers growing within arms-reach we would pop the blooms. Now, if I had ever tried to pop that snake (mistaking it for a bud) I think i would of learned a lessen very quickly. I'm too old for a spanking now. LOL!!!

I just read somewhere on line someone quoting a book "Amphibians and Reptiles of Northern Guatemala, the Yucatan, and Belize" saying that the Green Vine Snake "feeds heavily on birds." I also found a photo of one eating a bird--a songbird with yellow feathers, but I couldn't see for sure what it was--oriole maybe. Apparently, they're somewhat venomous and can deliver a non fatal, but very painful bite to a human.

I think most snakes of any size that spend a lot of time in trees will take birds if they can get them. Sad to think about, but that's nature. I'd be nervous to see (him?) spending a lot of time nestled in hummingbird flowers.

Very pretty snake, though!
