WOW Thank you everyone and thank you Bob for posting one of my crummy little pics. What a nice surprise considering what I have just been through (weatherwise) here!
Well it is going to be a quiet birthday here as we have white-out conditions right now. For those of you who aren't familiar with that term ...all I can see is SNOW and visibility is almost ZERO! I had to go to the post office to mail out my family's Christmas and one big order I didn't get ready in time for my pick up this morning and it took me nearly 10 minutes to go one block. Luckily I saw the mail truck and pulled over and asked the mailman if he would take my packages which he did. Then another 20 minutes to turn around and come back to the house. I think we already have a foot of snow on the ground since 8:30 this morning. I had to use my broom to clear the snow off the car as the snow brush wasn't doing a thing. This is the most snow we have had at one time in at least 3 yrs. Just south of us going toward Erie PA I think it is even worse. I will be thinking of all of you down south and thinking warm thoughts!
Joan, I wasn't supposed to be having any more either
Thank you Everyone!

Get out there and play in the snow and show Joan what a real snowman looks like. LOL
Chris it is high time you participated in the forum. I hope everything is fine - your computer is working and your fingers aren't broken - so start posting.
Happy Birthday Penny. We are going through the same storm. It has stopped snowing, but we are snowed in and waiting for the plow guy. I couldn't even get out to go to work today, darn! LOL!
O, and good Ol Comm Cast has been in and out all day.

You got that right Russ. I've only made 2 in my life so I really don't know what I'm doing. Mine toppled over shortly after the picture was taken. I didn't even get to put arms on.

Hi Penny,
Happy Birthday!
I hope you are all shoveled out so you can be ready for next the next batch of snow on Sunday. I enjoyed my snow day. I'm sure glad they closed the schools even though the weather was fine until 8:00. It was a nice bird watching day- the juncos and chickadees were very hungry!
Steve I like nice round nubers so 25 works for me LOL!
Russ,
Joan will have to be happy with her snowman which btw, I have been showing to everyone who didn't believe it snowed down in NOLA. After I made it back inside from trying to catch the mail man, I hibernated for the rest of the day.
Carol in WNY,
Yes more is heading our way tomorrow....should we blame Patrick since it is coming from his neck of the woods?
Sandy, Sarah, Lee, Alan, Dianne Carol, Suchie, Patricia and all
It was quite a mess here all day yesterday and since we had a driving ban we didn't even go out for dinner but I think we might go this evening. We did hit the road early this morning and got all our Christmas shopping done so tomorrow we will spend the day inside while it is snowing and blowing outside and put up the tree, bake a few cookies to munch on and wrap gifts. Maybe I will move my birthday to June!

My mathematician sister tells me you'd be 31 in base 8 (octal). Or, perhaps you'd prefer the hexadecimal system (base 16) where you would be 19. When you get to be 50, many years from now, you could use base 25 and be 20 years old! Like the sound of this?
Alan,
I had two packages that had to get out on Friday and I knew with the roads as bad as they were that I would never make it to the post office so I figured our mailman had to still be fairly close by and if I could catch up with him, I could give the packages to him since they already had postage. I hope I never have to do that again because the roads were really bad.
Stephen, Kathi, Priya and Kristen,
Thank you all for the birthday wishes. Well I didn't get my steak dinner as we were too tired after we did our power shopping yesterday so we stayed in and ordered a pizza. And Kristin, I will settle for Base 8.

Hey Penny, forgive me, I'm late as usual. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
I too went looking for emoticons and found them unavailable. Maybe that's a blessing in disguise....forced me to really think about, and put into words what I feel, instead of taking the shortcut.
Thanks for moderating the forum, responding to all questions no matter how mundane, and of course, sharing the knowledge you've gained from years of challenging gardening geared toward accomodating our "brats.'
Lizette,
You are way too kind. I just have to emphasize that most all of what I know I have learned from all the other hummer gardeners here. This forum really is a joint effort of learning and sharing of all our great members. I wouldn't be anywhere if it weren't for all of you. You have all shared your own knowledge whether it is one plant or a garden full
Alan,
Come on now, it isn't as cold as it is in indianapolis where Steve is but it is cold enough for sure!

Looks like Lobelia cardinalis, a.k.a. Cardinal Flower on Sarah's card. It's a great hummingbird flower. It grows wild here in western PA, but doesn't do very well in my garden. Go figure!

Penny and Kristen are right it's Lobelia cardinalis native to our area grows wild here and I have been lucky that it is happy in my yard Kristen. It likes it's rossette exposed in winter. I just let it go and it pops up wherever it wants
