Mr. Anna's

This is Mr. Anna. He is a resident of most of Southern California. He is a friendly but aggressive hummer, will guard his territory relentlessly.

Here he is in all his iridescent glory!

Laura...love the pic. He certainly evokes the spirit of aggression! I'm pretty sure the male Anna's that spent the winter with me came from farther north...I'm just sure he didn't spend last Summer in my yard. Yesterday I went outside with a freshly refilled feeder. My male approached to check it out, but would not feed while I was holding it. He also rarely sits on the feeder's perches, preferring to feed while on the wing. All my hummers last summer sat on the perches. My female Anna's came to the feeder while I held it and didn't hesitate to land and eat. They were feeding heavily yesterday...they seemed to know that the weather was about to turn bad.
