Anyone grow this plant Cassia alata?

Plant is the photo is not fully opened. I got lots of seeds the other day, and I also have access to Cassia fistula.

Hello Patricia,

That is a lovely plant! I've already ordered a Cassia Hebecarpa bush/plant as a host plant for my fav butterfly...the Cloudless Sulphur. The Hebecarpa is hardy to zone 5... but the one you have is for zones 9-11. That plant would be great if I lived in FL. happy.gif

Cassia Alata

I had three of them, but I dug up one recently to plant a rose bush. The two I have were nailed by our latest freeze, but are coming back now. They grow very quickly. Mine reached about 12-15 feet in nine months or so. They started out about two feet. They have lots of seeds and tend to spread, so watch out.

I have four or five different cassias and the sulphurs seem to prefer this one. If the caterpillers eat the flowers they become yellowish. If they eat the leaves they stay green. I think they are the same sulphurs, but I'm not sure.

I now have more than a few sulphurs flittering around. They really do brighten up the yard.
