I have a very large Cross vine, but I haven't seen any hummers using it. The bees love it and apparently so do the butterflies. Can you share your experiences? Below are pics I took today.
Beatiful cross vine. Mine doesn't seem anywhere near blooming. Hummingbirds are always around when mine blooms but I don't think I have ever caugt on nectaring at it. I will try to pay attenetion this spring.

Thanks for sharing your great pics!
Maybe Nancy can share what the nectar ratio is on the Crossvine. I know she has offered the nectar #'s for several plants, but I don't know about Crossvine...

What on earth are you feeding your plants? between the enormous shrimp plant and the gargantuan crossvine (or is it the other way around), you have the largest plants of those two species that i have ever seen hands down.

Penny, I do fertilize. I feed the camelias below it some milorganite and Espoma fertilizer for acid loving plants. I have a well and a pump for water and I do water frequently, especially the area where the cross vine is, because it was blooming time for camelias, azaleas and tea olives. The tea olives are really fragrant at the moment; the camelias and the azaleas are declining rapidly.
In Florida these plants grow pretty much year round. The roses are really big around here. When mine bloom it's very special.
Tom,
Thanks for the information on your fertilizers. I have never noticed milorganite and Espoma fertilizer in our area but I did a search and they are both available at one nursery not far from me. I will have to check them out next time I am over there.

I just checked my cross vines. Both my old one and the new red one has little bitty buds. I was so happy to see them on the new little vine and when I saw those I thought the older one should have them too. Sune enough what I could not see last week was there now. Amazing what warm weather and rain will do.
