You should not have a problem growing this plant. Your best bet is seeds. I don't have any now but someone else might. I ordered my first seeds from an offer on e-bay.

Once started no problem to keep.

Do you just plant them into the ground or start in pots?

I just started my seeds in the ground in late spring and in no time I had little plants coming up everywhere. I don't worry about saving seeds. I have plenty of volunteers. I have also pulled up old plants and thrown them in areas around my yard. New plants in the spring.

Hello Marilyn,

Unfortunately I have none left to share...
I had sent out several seeds out to many members here on the forum and I kept just enough from what I harvested in our garden last year to sow for our garden this year.

My original seeds came from the Botanical Interest's company. I bought the packet at our local nursery. You can call up to see what local nursery carries this company's seeds, or you can place an order for them here...online or over the phone.

Hope that helps happy.gif

I am logged in now. Marilyn if you can get some seeds you will be set. I can't promise much hummingbird action but the butterflies with use this flower like crazy. It is also the most beautiful color. I don't want to be without it in my yard.

Marilyn,

The seeds I purchased a couple of years ago were Burpee Seeds which I probably purchased at Wal Mart. It is very common on the seed racks by various seed companies.

Good luck on finding the seeds. If you don't find them check out Dave's Garden or e-bay.

Checked stores here and no one selling these seeds. Have regular sunflower seeds though.

Marilyn and all,
I have read that Tithonia is also very easy to start from 12 inch cuttings (less than a week) by removing the lower leaves and putting the stem right down in moist but not wet soil. then again the seeds are so easy to sprout you really don't need to take cuttings.

...they even have packets of Burpee Tithonia seeds at K-Mart. I checked today, and they are on sale: regularly $1.79, now 25% or more off.

I bought seeds last year but didn't get them sowed. Hopefully they will still be good to go this season! Good luck.

Patricia,

Wow, you got htose pretty fast! I actually found some more at "the christmas tree shop" last week and figured I'd buy a few packs, just in case (they were cheap). I really don't understand all the hype about these plants this year. LOL The butterfly's liked them but my hummers really didn't seem interested. It amazing what hummers use in some peoples yard and ignore in others. It has to be a "personla preference". I know Susan and I grew quite a few of the same Hummer plants last year, so our gardens were similar. So why did they like hers and not mine? Personal Preference. [linked image]

Marilyn,

I did see your post about the seeds ( I just didn't get a chance to reply and it disappeared into the abyss), no thanks necessary, just enjoy. e'll see who's plants attract the hummers for sure this year!!

Marilyn,

Glad to hear the seeds sprouted for you. I'm a little worried that they grew FOUR inches before you realized they had sprouted! [linked image] Better keep an eye on them now, they will need watering. [linked image]

How are everyone's growing? Mine are about5 inches tall and I just planted them outside.(will cover them if it gets cold again)Seems to be a very easy plant to grow so far. I thinking of planting some zinnias in the bed with them.

Lisa,
Mine are probably a little shorter than yours but they are going in the ground tomorrow!! I had to get another bag of top soil conditioner to mix into the area that I will be planting them in so I don't break my back with this rock hard clay.I wish my salvias looked as good as these.
