Ward, Can you ID this plant from Palmyra?

Ward,

I sowed some seeds I "stole" from Palmyra last summer but I forgot to mark the seeds so I don't know what I'm growing other than "Mystery Palmyra seeds". I'm sure you'll be able to tell me what they are. The seeds must have been extremely tiny of this plant usually clumps because I don't usually sow more than 2-3 seeds in a cell and these cells exploded with growth.

Thanks!

Until Ward checks in I am guessing it is maybe Nicotiana sylvestris or glauca

I agree with Penny, those do look like Nicotiana seedlings, which all look alike to me. Nicotianas do have really tiny seeds.

My guess is the green-flowered langsdorffii because the mutabilis didn't thrive there. If you have extra maybe we could do a swap since I'm growing mutabilis. It looks like it is getting about time to seperate those plants. They are always have very small roots when the ball is shaken apart, yet somehow most survive the transplant to cell packs.

Pam, there will be some good plants this year. For the sale and for trading I spent most of the weekend putting seedlings into cell packs - 7 or 8 hundred plants since Saturday morning. I need a shower. There will also be between 75 and 100 David Verities available and some local versions of Salvia microphylla and greggii. Boy will I be glad when all this is over and I can sit back and enjoy the garden munching on a fresh Brandywine tomato.

And thanks to Susan, there are around a hundred coccinea Coral Nymph seedling in cells and ready to go.

Ward,

From what I saw on google the Nicotiana mutabilis is a pink flower verses the Green langsdorffii. Sounds like a good trade if I don't mangle them while seperating them.

I can relate to the transplant blues, although on a smaller scale. I spent all day saturday repotting seedlings that I too hope to sell this season. I have a few flats that will go to the Park, a few for my gardens, and the rest I hope to sell to offset those that I want to purchase. Not having a "real job" has put a crimp in my "plant spending" for the season, so I hope to be able to purchase a few plant necessities from the profits. This is a first for me so more than likely I'll be in the "red" and stuck with hundreds of hummer plants. LOL (Not such a bad thing unless it means digging more gardens and spending more $$$ on compost!)

I understand your Plant Sale is on the 25th of this month. What time does it begin? Are you offering only 4 inch pots? How much do you get for them?

I will email you my list before your sale to see if I indeed have some "trading power".

Pam,

This is what the Nicotiana mutabilis looks like when it gets bigger. The potted seedlings in front of them are 'Dwarf Sensation Mix' Cosmos. I just took the pic for you about an hour ago...

I'm still working out pricing. The bulk of what is available will be in 4-packs. Pat Sutton recommended that everything be sold at $5.00, whether it is a 4-pack or a potted sage. Since this is the first year I expect we won't sell a lot of stuff, but who knows. What are you looking for? Since you have contributed plants it wouldn't be right to charge you. There are a couple of "local" sages I would like you to try.
