It is raining, cold and windy again but not as windy as last week. Yesterday it was 83 here and this morning it was 61 now we are down to 48 with the high supposed to be reaching 53 but I don't think so. I did try and do some weeding with the hoe between raindrops but then it got too darn cold. I could have lived with the 61 today but this is too much of a drop BRRRRRRR!

It got relly cool this morning the high temperature for today is 60 degrees and cold.Tomorrow is sunny alittle bit warmer in the 70 plus range. But rain again on Thursday and 60 plus .
Our weather here has changed a bit not as drastic as yours but from 80 down to 60s windy and rainy. Though looking at long range we are in for some 40s this weekend.
We should warm back up into the 60's tomorrow at least I hope so. 48 degrees right now is just too darn cold for the end of April as far as I am concerned.

Oh my gosh Penny! I just came in to cool off. Hard to believe I was in a sweatshirt and fleece jacket this time last week! I will have to watch the local weather at 5. Yesterday when I took my daughter to the doctor I noticed the black berries are in bloom so we may have a cold snap coming our way too.
Linda,
Yesterday I thought I was going to have a heart attack mowing the grass as it was so hot and humid (going straight from 50's last week to mid 80's the last three days and then the bottom fell back out today.

I have been trying to get some weeding done today and I have to tell you summer has arrived here in the southeast. Hot and dry. What happened to all that rain? I sure enjoyed it while it was coming. Now we have settled into the old routine. I have sprinklers going.

Dianne, I just came in from watering. Watched the local weather and there is only slight chance of scattered showers for the next few days, highs in the mid 80s and lows in the 60s for next 7 days.
Winds were a bit wild in spurts today. That cheapo mini greenhouse got blown over while I was at the gym. What fear when I came home and saw it lying on its side. Like a fool I left the Plastic on and open to protect the plants from the winds and it acted like a sail. Four shelves times 3 flats per shelf and I only lost 6 plants! Lucked out. The 6 were my Tomatoe plants that were not for sale so at least that was good. Sometimes I lack common sense!
Pam I meant to tell you the other day to watch your green house in windy weather. they can fly. I have had mine blow over loaded with plants in the past too. So glad to hear you didn't loose those gorgeous plants after all your hard work.

Yeah, I ALWAYS learn the HARD way! I lucked out and only lost a few. I couldn't sleep last night because I left them uncovered but heavily bungyed. I didn't want to put holes in the plastic from the bungy cords so I left them uncovered and checked on them several times. The coldest it got was 45-50 I believe but after 3 days of 80+, I worried they'd be in shock! I fianlly cover them loosely and went back to LOL
Is it safe for the plants to go from 85 down to 45 in a matter of hours?
If they are hardened off it will set them back a little but for the most part they will be ok. My seedlings were left out on the porch last night. I just put the flats on top of the wicker settee and draped a sheet of plastic from the back of the settee over the seet. I was just too tired to bring them inside. Our temps went down to between 38 and 40. I had the settee against the wall of the house and they were fine this morning when I checked them at 6:00.
It is still cool today (mid 60's compared to the mid 80's over the week end) and it is still a bit windy but no rain and the sun is shining so I thought I would try and do just a little bit more out in the yard. I dug up my sweet autum clematis (Hopefully I got it all out) and transplantted an Agastache rupestris into that spot and started a couple of cuttings of my butterfly bush and weigelia after I dug up the perennial geranium that was getting way out of hand and removed a dead bleeding heart. Tomorrow is supposed to go up to 68-70 but possible rain so I am taking advantage of the sun while it is here.
