Kathi & Michael!!! I still don't have one. Mine first was a male 5/2 last year. I really was hoping for a very early one since they started North earlier than normal. I had my first Indigo Bunting last year 4/28 & haven't seen them either. I hope I don't have another slow summer like last year. 2007 was awesome & had tons every day & swarms during fall migration.
Congrats Kathi and Michael!!! I too have an early male, April 28. But alas, he must of been flying northward I haven't seen him since. What a wonderful unexpected treat! Let the games begin.
Thank you so much everyone and congrats to Kathy in Michigan on her first April hummingbird. I've been recovering from a horrible cold and the sight of that little girl immediately made me feel much better---amazing how effective life's free and easy remedies can be!!
Anyhow, our first hummingbird was not only our first April hummingbird ever but our earliest female hummingbird ever. We keep records of all of our sightings and here's the history:
2001: May 15
2002: May 10
2003: May 5
2004: May 7
2005: May 16 (we were out of town May 11-15, so there could have been an earlier sighting that year)
2006: May 5
2007: May 9
2008: May 3
2009: April 30
We have not seen her or any other hummingbird yet today, but that's how things seem to go in the spring. I think we are excited now!!

Ooooo, I hope soon. I have the oranges out & haven't seen Orioles yet but heard they are around. Something has been eating them though. They are sectioned out. It was 5/2 last year so we'll see. Going to Ted's in Tinley Park tomorrow. Found some goodies there last year....Justicia, Porterweeds, Greggiis, Mimulus & Golden Marinka Fuchsia, along with some Carnivorous plants that I plan to try in my bog this year.
