California Quail eggs

Hummingbirder 2008

I managed to get a pic of the California Quail nest under my red-hot poker clump. I think you can see 6 eggs here but there are actually 8! She will probably lay 2-4 more and then start incubating.

Lucky you Jeff! We used to have quail nesting at our place when I was growing up in Spokane, I miss the little guys! Let us know how as they progress. happy.gif

Ruth, I didn't know you'd lived in Spokane...I grew up on a ranch near Chewelah.
(sorry folks...didn't mean to go OT with this)

I really wish we had quail in my present location...but I'm very grateful to have year-round Anna's! And I see the occasional bald eagle here.

The closest type of bird I saw that reminded me of a Quail is a Wild Turkey I saw along the side of Highway 77, walking along near a ditch while I was heading North back home from Beatrice here in Nebraska last week. For me, that was a lifer!
