I couldn't believe what happened yesterday. The yard guy mows my yard on Thursday mornings. When I went outside after he left I noticed my new little honeysuckle was no longer threaded through my fence. He had mowed it down! I put it in my flower bed, but it was right on the edge. It was very small so I see why he might have thought it was a weed. Also, he uses a riding mower so probably doesn't look closely. It's still there, just a stubble now, but I'm hoping it will come back. I'm going to have to get something to put around it before next Thursday so he doesn't keep mowing it. How frustrating!

OH Carol that is heartbreaking. I just planted my little one today. I am so glad I got one on ebay because I was at a local nursery today and they had them for the first time just a few inches bigger than the one I got for 17.99 that is more than I paid for mine with the shipping!

I tend to think that Pam and Dianne are right. I bought my coral honeysuckle a few year ago in early spring and potted it up because it was still too cold to put it outside. It stayed in that large pot oll summer because I didn't know where to put it. In November I decided where to put it but by then the roots had grown out of the pot into the ground. I had to cut it down to within a couple of inches of the soil surface and cut the roots to get it out of the pot. I planted it out and had no idea if it would come back. Well it did bigger and stronger than ever the next spring.

Carol-- That must be upsetting for you but I too think it will come back. I did the same thing to my agas cana but i know it will come back just spaced it for a bit. I also ordered a goldflame online I think maybe from the same people you guys got yours, I got on buy it now for $3.49 . Dont expect to get it till next friday. Got my tutti fruitti today from bluestone perrenials same place I got them from last year. I think I will just pot this goldflame.
The 'precious plant being cut down by over-zealous mower' scenario is the story of my botanical life. For me it usually happens right before the thing is ready to bloom after months of babying it along. I've learned to mark, stake, wrap-up and practically decorate like a Christmas tree any questionable growing things. This spring I have a dormant honeysuckle with a long yarn garland around it!
