This is always so cute when it happens and it seems its always a female. Anyway I have the shades up sitting in my pc chair as the hummer comes fluttering in but she doesnt go to the feeder its as if shes looking at me she flutters all over the outside of the window looking in at me it appears, but in all reality she may be seeing her own reflection. Just the same she appears to be looking at me and have all the cuiosity of a cat. It always brings a smile to my face when it happens.

Yes, I've seen this too, Steve--very cute! I've always had the impression they were looking through the window at me and were curious. If it was their reflection, wouldn't they attack it? [linked image]

They are so curious about the world around them, and it's such a charming trait. No females for me, yet, but the little guy has been coming every day at 15 to 30 minute intervals. He's so much tamer than any of my other first hummingbirds have been. In past years it took at least a month for them to settle down and get comfortable with me prowling around, sticking cameras right against the window, working in the garden, etc. I figure he must have hatched here last year and was maybe one of the many juvie males I saw at my feeders and flowers.

I can't wait to see my first female and my first "U-dance." I would love to get that on video, but it would be tough to follow.

I have had the beginnings of some territoriality nothing major though. Yes I too would love to get a courtship on vid but have never been able to do it as yet. You certainly have to be ready and quick to get that on tape. To tell you the truth I dont remember seeing anyone on this forum post it either. If anyone has I would have to say maybe Russ.
