OK Steve this is for you. Sorry no picture yet. The Gold Flame that I got on Ebay is about 12 inches tall. Leaves are nice and healthy and green. No buds and in fact I don't even know if it will bloom this year. I think Carol in Tenn. got one from the same ebayer so she may know more about when it will bloom than me. I planted it in my front south facing bed on my arbor and it is doing very well. Right after mine arrived I saw one at a local nursery maybe 6 taller, at the most, for $17.99 mine was $3.49 plus shipping. I bought two plants from this ebayer so it was $5.75 total shipping for both. If you divided it out I paid $3.49 plus $2.88 shipping for a total of $6.37 for the Gold Flame.

Kay -- If you can wait a few days and keep an eye out on ebay you will see the same ebayer post the goldflame for bid again and you too will be able to get it for $3.49. as buy it now.
I would email him and ask if he has any more gold flames that he is going to put up. I would hate for you to miss out on one of these if he doesn't have any more of the gold flame.

Steve that puppy is already in the ground. I thought about putting it in a big pot for the year but decided to plant it and save having to move another big pot at the end of the season

Penny-- Just recieved my goldflame today that was sure fast considering I just recieved notice of shipment yesterday but most likely shipped on monday. This plant is rather small 5 or 6 inches tall, but it is fresh healthy looking and moist but I added water to it anyway and set it outside. It is raining here today not hard and not a sprinkle just coming straight down. The kind of rain you would like to order if could the next day after planting which is what I did yesterday. I also picked up some tomato plants yesterday that are also sitting outside. If the bugs dont infest my coral honeysuckle looks like I will have loads of flowers on it.
Steve, That's about the size mine where when I got them. I did not plant them out in a bed, but put the in pots where they still are. By the end of summer they grew up to the top of 4" stakes and down another foot.
I decided to plant mine out in hopes that it would get established soon and grow more. The first honeysuckle I got amd put in a pot got so big the roots grew out of the pot and down into the ground and I had a heck of a time getting it out of the pot so this one did go right in the ground.

What I do like about them being in pots is you can move them around to your liking, or should I say the hummers liking. I plan on planting mine in ground as soon as I can find a good spot , like I'm going to gain some space in my yard somewhere
Sandy
I kept mine in a pot the first year just for the reasons that you mentioned but by fall it was over 10 feet tall and had been and was almost too much to handle. Maybe just the coral honeysuckle grows that big the first year as the Dropmore Scarlet only grew about 5 ft. the first year. I just didn't want to have to wresttle with the vines at the end of the summer so I found the best sunny spot in my yard which is in front of my front porch and that is where it went.

Im still letting my goldflame stretch its legs. One of the stems that was in a kind of downcurl is now uncurled and reaching for the sky. Still in its 4inch pot but I have watered it well. Still comtemplating just where it might go or how it might go. Im thinking in the ground, could put out in full sun but might be farther away from my viewing as Id like. Also still have a close eye on my coral honeysuckle loaded with blooms but Im just so scared aphids will attack any day now . They certainly loved it last year but this year Im ready and learnd from last year.

Still havent made up my mind just yet. What are anyones thoughts about keeping it pruned well rounded well shaped and does it bloom in the first year. Obviously this is my very first goldflame but from everything I have read about them and from my sister's comments about her plant I just had to have one.
I'm assuming that the hummers like the Gold Flame Honeysuclkle? We just stopped at a True Value Hardware and they had some nice ones already booming. I almost bought one, because I thought I remembered seeing it on the forum recently, but I had not read the thread. It sounds like it gets very tall...therefore, does it need a trellis? I'm tempted to go pick one up tomorrow...after all Sunday is Mother's Day and I haven't bought many plants for my garden yet!
I need to find or order some B & B...as I do not think mine are going to come back this year...they just look dead! Should I just wait a bit longer?
Verna yes gold flame honeysuckle will need a support as it is a twining vine. I am not sure of the overall height but if it is like Coral honeysuckle it should eventually reach at least 10 ft. Several of us bought ours on ebay. They are very expensive here if you can even find them. I did see one at a local nursery a few weeks ago for 17.99 and it was no bigger than the one on ebay.
