We have a frost warning also. Most all the plants I've bought so far, are in the garden wagon. I pull it out in the day, and put it in the garage at night. The rest are in my screen porch. I have smarted up a little . I will plant my cannas this week, but will wait till next week for the rest, even though we will have a frost warning or 2 after that.
Most of my stuff is either in the garage or on the porch covered up but I did plant out my two greggiis, w penstemons and my silene virginica so I just put flower pots over them.

Patchy frost and 38 degrees for here as well. I covered up a couple things and brought almost everything else back in. I actually saw 3 hummers here at one time today which is a record here this early. Usually very little sightings this time of year. I stuck out two more feeders they will hopefully use. One flew up to the window and tried to get to the plants it could see inside.
Sorry hear its going to get that cold there in may. Here it is supposed to get down to 42 on monday night which is as cold as I know of upper 40s tonight. But I still brought everything in. As far as hummers go I havent seen one here for several days but it could explode any day I guess, I hope.
Here in Peoria, ill we are talking down to 43 degrees. I got all my salvias out already for except two potted ones are not ready to go on the deck.Penny I guest it is the best to go plain old potting soil not the three months fertilizer. Is is all right to use better earth compost to mix into the plain potting soil for the summer.
well at 5:45 this morning it is 33 degrees according to weatherbug and TWC but 28 degrees acording to Weather Underground. My back yard got frosted pretty good but most of it seems to be in the middle of the yard where it is more open and unprotected and all grass. The beds seem to be spared. Very little frost in the front from what I can tell so far. I am glad I covered up plants. Will have to do the same thing again tonight as we have another frost advisory for tonight too. I took feeders down and replaced the nectar. One feeders that only had 2 or 3 ounces of nectar was slightly slushy.

Well they predicted 48 here last night only got down to 53. Tonight they are still saying a low 42 then after that clear sailing for awhile.
There is a rabbit roaming the neighborhood that seems far too comfortable in my yard, this morning I caught him munching on my shumannii I will be having rabbit for supper one of these evenings.
I left the pots out by the plants so I don't have to go back to the garage to get them this evening. The stuff that I left in the mini greenhouse on the porch with a blacket over the top did fine. It was all my smallest seedlings that haven't been potted up into 3 inch pots yet mostly Salvia subrotunda and Cuphea schumanni.

Rabbits have never been destructive in my yard. I can't remember them ever causing damage. Upon consideration I think I know why. The lawn hasn't received any herbicide treatments or fertilizer and has white clover running all through it. There is enough clover out there to feed an army of rabbits and they seem to stick to that exclusively.
They're predicting 38 tonight, and patchy frost in the Pittsburgh area. I don't think it got nearly that cold last night. Since you're farther north, that cold wave must have hit you sooner, Penny.
By midweek, it looks like there will be a warmup around here, with temperatures staying in the 70's during the day, and above 50 at night, thank goodness. I'm going to have to haul a bunch of things in tonight--Brrr!
