I just saw the first female come to one of the First Nature feeders. Hopefully she has reached her destination and will be sticking around and hopefully there is a male close by so that the population can build back up eventually to what it was a couple of years ago.

Penny, your birds are doing better in the romance department than mine. Like last year, I started with two males, then one left. So, I have just one lone ruby, who comes to the feeders occasionally. No chance of little ones with just the single guy here. If you have an extra female, please send her on down!

Well Golly...I'd say so finally!! So happy that your female showed up - am sure the male has her eye on her! Even if you don't have your eye on him yet LOL!!! Penny that is great news -I know how long you have waited - yours just had to be the next one!
Let me tell you this has been a very very long wait for me. Since last year's population was down so much over previous years I just new that whatever birds I had just didn't survive migration and none would be returning. Carol I think mine is the last one to arrive. I just hope she decides to stay put.

I know this has been an ordeal waiting and worrying. I'm saying a silent prayer that she stays and raises some babies. This is a reminder to me to never take them for granted. I'm feeling very blessed this year, but every spring I worry that something like this could happen to me. There are so many misfortunes that can befall these birds on their wintering grounds or in migration. It's a wonder as many make it back as do!
Congrats Penny on the female arrival!! I hope you have a population explosion. As for me a strange year usually I get early male and females to stick around and do what comes naturally , not so this year. So yes I have to agree with Kristin be more than thankfull for the good years. In my years here I have been more than blessed with hummers. This year remains to be seen.
