Did some nursery hopping today and came across Atlock's Flower Farm in Somerset. He's known for his variety of Coleus, (there was actually a Coleus book signing there today). Fortunately He also grows quite a variety of Salvia's. I picked up this one which I believe he said was a Van Houttei. I think he may have named it incorrectly though, I can only find Lewis Orange Delight referenced. It was propogated as a cutting. He had alot of other Splendens too. I gave this one a try because of the awesome color and it passed the nectar test.

He also had Hot Lips, Purple Majesty, Leucantha, Greggii Desert Blaze and LIR & Coral Nymph. I'm sure there were others I've forgotten. Worth a look see if your in that area.

I also took 2 Salvia Hot Lips.

I also visited Ambleside for the first time. Nice people. Came home with:

Greggii Navajo Rose
Salvia Greggii Coral

They also had B&B & Forest Fire. Nice to see some nurseries are carrying more salvia's.

Pam,

Looks like you had a productive day. The Somerset nursery sounds promising. I picked up Navajo rose and something labelled as Cherry Chief early this season from Ambleside.

Well we were up in that area. We went to Duke Farms and Washington Valley Park and did some hiking on the trails there. Nice weather for it.

The tag said zone 7, the owner said probably NOT, I'm awaiting responses from my friends here! [linked image]

If no tit will stay in a pot on my deck and entice the hummers up close and personnal, well worth the $4.99. [linked image]

Pam,

I was out white water rafting all of yesterday and just catching up. I started Navajo red from seed and they started out really well. When they were about 2.5 inches tall, I moved them outdoors. The couple of cold nights we had destroyed them. Ward had mentioned in an earlier post that they have done well in one of his gardens.

I bought Navajo rose from Ambleside and it looks a lot like Wild thing. I don't trust those Ambleside labels. Even the lady at the nursery felt there may have been a mistake.

I guess no one has any knowledge about Lovies Orange Delight. The grower wrote the tag himself, it was not a manufactured label.
