Sentenced to 6 weeks of complete bedrest, bags and laying flat..aaa hhhh.
My hubby and I were in an accident where we skidded on loose gravel with our ATV 10 days ago and we were both badly bruised from top to bottom, and I fractured my pelvis. We both had our crash helmets on, or I wouldnt have been writing this.
Ian set up one of the patio-type hammocks which we had and the doctor recommended, next to the window in the sitting room, where he knew I could watch the hummers. I have a small tablet computer which is very light with a separate keyboard that I can hold in the air with one hand and type , slowly After 5 days I could support my camera with my left elbow on the bed, and aim! Both hubby, our workers wife and their daughter who we are sponsoring and putting through university while she studies nursing, are taking care of me..

My right leg is still very painful but we are alive.
OMG! Patricia its very good thing you were wearing helmets or yes it would have been even worse. Im so happy you are recovering and still with us. I had a nephew who wasnt quite so lucky he wasnt wearing a helmet and the atv flipped over and his face and scalp was badly damaged , had to wear one of those metal braces supporting his head for a long time and his face is still badly scared from it. So yes those things are very dangerous and hopefully you will recover from this without too much discomfort.
I am sure that everyone here will be happy that you and your husband are alive..
But sorry that you are in pain.
Thank God , you are (sort of) ok , and that you have good care,a hammock, and hummers( and photography)( and a light weight computer to help you in your recovery as therapy.
Oh my goodness, Patricia. What shocking news! 6 weeks--yikes! In spite of an active life, I've somehow managed to avoid any broken bones. I hope my luck continues to hold out. I think I'll stay off of ATV's, thank you! I shudder to imagine how painful that must have been. So glad you and your husband are still with us.
In spite of it all, you brought a smile to my face with your descriptions of lying there with computer and camera at the ready, and a plethora of hummingbirds to watch. You know, it could be way worse!
I look forward to your convalescence hummingbird pictures, but please do astound those doctors and get well soon!
Wow, Patricia, I'm so glad that you were wearing helmets. I hope you heal soon. It must be frustrating not to move about freely, but get some rest now.
Take care.
patricia,
I am so sorry to hear of your accident. ATVs can be tricky on gravel. I know of a couple of people that ended up in a similar situation as you and Ian and they didn't fair well either. It is good to know that you have people there to tend to you while you recover but for goodness sake, don't rush it. Take it easy and do as the doctor prescribes to the leter so that you are well and on your feet soon.

I am so glad your are both Mendable. Been wondering where you were at, but I thought you were on a vacation somewheres. I will do my best to keep you amused whilst you convelese. Floow Dr's orders even though I know it will be hard to stay put.
Hey, now would be a great time to pick up a second (or 3rd) language. Rosetta Stone looks like a good computer choice. Been thinking about it myself. Keep those spirits soaring, you will be well in no time!
Sounds like you are very lucky to be around. At least it sounds like you have a doctor who is concerned about your emotional well-being as well as you physical health. Let people take care of you and get well soon.
Oh Patricia! I'm really sorry to hear of your accident & injuries. I don't know whether your current "green" season is rainy enough in your area to make you glad to be indoors, but there certainly is no time one really wants to be confined to "bed". Do take care & have patience with the healing process...may it be speedy for you!
Just a progress report - I have 5 of your Canna indica seedlings growing nicely. My weather is now warm enough & the plants are big enough I can plant them outdoors. I need space under my lights for other seedlings, so I will probably move the cannas outdoors tomorrow, in a semi-shady place where they can harden off.
Take care!

Oh Patricia I too am very sorry to hear about your accident...Am glad you are alive. Amazing.... your spirit to have hammocks, computer and camera set up so that you can still keep your eye on those little jewels says a lot! Keeping you in thoughts and prayers for a good recovery. I also have your canna indica seeds and really need to get them going...they won't be forgotten, though just a bit late starting them....
I'm sorry to hear about your accident Patricia. Be patient, and do just lilke the DR. orders, I did, when I was sentenced to 3 months, and it ended up being only 2. It's great that you have someone to take care of you. Get well soon!
Patricia, sorry to hear about your accident...so glad that you both had your helmets on! Will be praying for you and thinking of you as you heal. It is great that you have your hammock and your little friends to watch...I hope that their visits are plentiful

Oh Patricia I am so sorry about your accident but am happy to know that you are going to heal. I haven't really been reading everything lately because of things happening in our family.
Take care of your self and I will be praying for a full recovery.

I know exactly how you feel,Patricia. I had a hip replacement 5 weeks ago,and have finally been let loose, using a cane. It does hurt now and then as I'm sure you do too, and I also spend a lot of time watching the hummers and other birds.(Excellent therapy). My best wishes for a full recovery.
Thanks everyone for your kind thought and wishes! I have a\bit more mobility of my right leg, and the bruising has at least 'diminished'!
To add insult to (my) injury, our connection 'box' for the internet and another phone, was 'destroyed by a lightning strike not far from our front door, this past week...
Nancy, I guess I get to the cane part, after the 'sentence' has been lifted!
The hummer have been proving a great show, and I have managed a few good photos.
