This is the Red Cup-leaf Penstemon that we obtained from Bustani last spring. It did unexpectedly send up two flower spikes late last summer. This spring there are 15 flower spikes and it has come into full bloom. Very pleased with the look. We are in eastern Ks. I know that there are several on the Forum that are trying this plant. I would encourage anyone who is thinking about it to give it a try. Beautful flowers. They are about 36 inches tall.

I tried this plant out last year but it didnt do well for me, maybe I didnt have the soil rich enough or maybe I didnt water it enough , it just didnt grow for me.

Gorgeous. I thought about getting this one, but ended up with Penstemon eatonii instead. It's not quite as tall, flowers less flaring and they droop down more. Mine has 6 flowering stalks. The hummingbirds are really liking it. Are they going for your P. murrayanus? Looks like it would be hard for them to resist, and those red flowers look so nice up against the white house.

Great photo and very instructional, my plants need to be further apart. It is nice to see they can be something besides rather ratty looking transplants too.

JP,

It is beautiful. Thanks for posting this photo. Ours is in the ground, but so far looks about the same as when we received it. We are anxious to see whether it will work for us or not. Please let us know about hummer usage. We certainly saw hummers enjoying it at Bustani Farm.

Steve,

The plants didn't grow hardly at all until August. Mine are in very lean soil. Perhaps if I had given them some food they would have grown taller.

Kristin and Kathi,

These are planted at the place in the country and I have been unable to observe them the way I would like. There are hummingbirds visiting all the time. Maybe I will get a chance this weekend to just sit and watch.

Kristin,

The p. eatonii is very striking. Enjoyed seeing the video of the hummingbird feeding on it.
