Its all clear now.

I put in a huge amount of work on the hummer and wildlife garden this year but the adults have been feeder junkies then even they went native with the Orange Honeysuckle in bloom so I was sitting on the back deck feeling depressed and foolish surrounded by these blooming hummingbird plants when the first juvenile of the season showed up worked over the large S. exserta that I have in a pot and some Canada Columbine that the adults never touched then perched near me on a plant cage for bit fed some more then sat some more then went on its way, then today while watering a juvenile buzzed up to the hose spray so I softened the flow and held it out, he rotated in one spot a few times then sat in the bushes continuing the bath this went on for four or five minutes it was a great hummer moment.

So like Ward said the garden is for the juveniles, they get to build up there strength then fatten up for the migration, practice there fighting skill, learn what are the good plants and give us a good show at the same time.

Only three more weeks and the adults will leave here, its been a good year lots of females nesting near by and I saw males every day, April is starting to be a real migration month here we have gone from a few to dozens for the month.

I feel a lot better now.

I'm really glad you made this post because I missed Ward's remark. I needed that, thanks! I've been feelings the same way...feeder junkies are all I have.
