Just had a message on my phone from the nursery that they have two blue salvias that just came in. I don't know if either are black and blue or not but I am headed over there to find out...keeping my fingers crossed but since the message just said blue salvias I am not too hopeful.

Good luck with the salvias, Penny. I just ordered the 'Blue Brazilian Sage' from Select Seeds, after hearing how popular they are. The plants are all starting to fill in. My DH is finally going to count the number of pots on the patio and cart me off to the mental hospital.
I my defense, some of those pots are in the "Nursery area" (about a dozen) and in 4 inch pots. Of course, eventually they have to be potted UP or traded or planted out (opps, no more room in gardens) so they my remain in pots on the deck.
Silly me, I said to Hubby last night, I am running out of pots, I thought it was ALOT more crowded last year on the deck and I had no more pots left than either. Knowingly he replied, Pam, thats because all your plants aren't done GROWING yet. Oh Yeah!!
You back yet Penny? I m so bored today, lousy weather we're having...again.

Penny? I'm the ignorant one here re: B&B, but if you can tell me when the right time is I'll be more than happy to try to dig up some of my B&B and ship it to you? You may get some monarda scarlet gardenview or jacob kline with it, lol. (I know you've seen my happenstance garden mess...)
Maryjane and all,
Thank you for your very generous offer. I really can get by this year with what I have. It is more frustrating than anything else because I have been able to find a small one here or there at a couple of local nurseries but since none of our local nurseries grow their own plants they just order out of a catalog what they think people will buy...very frustrating. They are no better than the big box stores and don't have a clue about the plants they get.

I believe that Blue Angel is a Salvia Patens hybrid and is very pretty but a sprawling salvia. Even in a pot it tends to sprawl and I just don't have room for sprawlers. The flowers are considerably larger than the guaraniticas. I didn't have a chance to pull off a bud and check for nectar. I believe that Nan has or does grow S. patens

I think Nancy's experience is like mine, it hates hot and humid weather. Since you are further north yours may do much better, the rest of us will just evy you.
Ward I didn't buy it. I had a patens one year and it sprawled all over the place. We do get lots of humidity here also and the one I had didn't bloom well during the heat of summer so I didn't want to try it again

I had thought of sending you some but was afraid they wouldn't survive the trip. It's in the 90s here already. Everything wilts mid day including me.lol
I will survive quite well this year with what I have now. I may even try and start some more seed now and maybe get a bloom or two before frost just so I can see what color the flower turns out like. I just got spoiled the last few years with being able to have so many B&B's between what I found locally and what I was able to grow so
NO ONE NEEDS TO FEEL BAD FOR ME OR SEND ME ANY PLANTS... REALLY LOL! Enjoy the ones that you all have and enjoy watching your hummers use them.
