It is considered a butterfly plant more than a hummer plant but the hummers will use them too.

Pentas are one of my hummingbird's favorites. Also one of my favorites. I've had a hard time finding them this year because the weather has been so cool that they are just now starting to bloom and most nurseries don't carry them until they are blooming. I just picked up 5 plants today and looking for about 20 more.

Eldon,

you'll probably see many Hummingbird Moths enjoying them too. they love our Cleome', the B&B's, Petunias and the Pentas...[linked image]

I don't have pentas this year but I do love them. My butterflies seemed to enjoy them more than the hummingbirds. I think they are a plus for any garden.[linked image]

I wouldn't be without pentas for my hummers. Butterflies do love them, but my hummers visit them regularly. I'm attempting to overwinter some in 7B this year...but I don't have much hope.

Pentas overwinter here in zone 10a but after a couple years they get woody and ragged. I tried seeds from Park Seeds, but they are tiny and I've not had much success with them. Cuttings seem to work well and I have a batch started but I'm working on a new bed and putting in about 20 new plants if I can find them.

Here is an older photo of an Anna's at a Penta.

Well I am tempted to try one - Our local nursery did have them in. They are pretty flowers for sure. It is hard not to want each possibility...so if I get one it will be because the flower is nice in itself rather than hummer wise...
