How hot is too hot for hummingbird feeders? Saturday and Sunday it was 108 plus. Today 99. Ours is changed twice a week. Most of the day it is in the shade.

Should we be changing it more often when it is this hot? [linked image]

Like Sarah I change every third day but if it is very muggy I tend to change them every other day as I have noticed that mold spores will develop even if it isn't real hot but the humidity is high.

Thanks Penny and Sarah for the info. So far with our two First Nature feeders, they've been easy to take apart and clean, and they have been mold free.

Is there any particular water temperature that considered to be too hot? It's common here in the summer to be 100 plus in the shade [linked image]

Since I seldom have temps that warm up here in NY, it would be hard for me to say. I do try to have mine in some shade at least in the afternoon when it is really warm. I also use a makeshift humbrella over my feeders. It keeps the rain out and does provide some shade too so it serves a dual purpose.

Yes, the third day is about right unless the mix starts looking cloudy then I will go ahead and change. I try to judge what will be used in that 2-3day period and right now Im pretty much on target and waste very little. The two feeders that are used most here right now are the PP 209 and the first nature. Not using the tiny walmart feeders or the rose petals as much.
