Does anyone know where Major Wheeler in avaliable online? I've looked several times but haven't been able to find any online suppliers. I planted Alabama Crimson some time ago but haven't had much luck with it. Thanks for any help.

Matt Several of us (Steve in Indy, Sandy, Lisa in Wisconsin, Kay, Carol in Tenn and Dianne in Dothan have purchased honeysuckles from the Ebayer. The plants are small to start with but grow very quickly. He is located in Arkansas. Mine was about 10-12 inches tall when I got mine the end of April and has already reached the top of my 8ft. high arbor. Mine isn't bloomingyet but Steve in Indy's is blooming. We all purchased the Gold flame.

I got mine from Niche Gardens, which also has a great mail order service: Major Wheeler It says they're out of stock temporarily online, but I bet if you call them they probably have it tucked away.

Here's mine in full spring bloom:

Yes Niche Gardens does have it but i didn't list it since it was out of stock. I would take Matt's suggestion and give them a call. If they don't have any they may be able to tell you when they will have some come in or another source close to you that may have it.

I guess it is possible that some cultivars of L. sempervirons might be more heat hardy than others. It is worth a shot.

Wow, now that's a gorgeous honeysuckle! Do ya'll have much success with honeysuckle in spots that get shade? My "center of view from the house" spot is frustrating me. Can't figure what to do with it. There's a bright yellow lantana patch growing under a crepe myrtle, pruned to a tree shape, directly in front of the spot I want to plant something. (The dummies that planted this took the time and expense to build up a nice raised planting area about 6 feet across and five feet deep and a couple feet tall. And placed it so the back edge is a good 8 feet of empty space between it and the privacy fence. No ground cover, no mulch, just a nice large area for weeds to grow prolifically. Totally wasted space! aargh) I've been closely watching the sun in that area. All through the spring it was sunny. Now that the crepe myrtle is going gang busters there, and position of the sun has moved, it has a good bit of shade. And late in the day it is full shade. Kind of a dry area too. You think a honeysuckle could succeed there? I was thinking it would be pretty to look out the window and see a wide trellis full of honeysuckle.
The same clever folk planted two more crepe myrtles about a foot from the fence...yeah, that's gonna work!
