Went grocery shopping and came home with a plant

Our first WM supercenter in the area had its grand opening today so I was there with bells on as I had been holding off doing my grocery shopping till today. Anyway as I was in the checkout line. The people in front of me had a huge pot of Agastache which I had not seen when I went to check out the garden center. I paid for my groceries and then went back to look at the plants. They had gallon sized pots of Agastache in Full bloom for $6. Upon inspecting the plants I realized that there are 2 maybe three Agastaches in the pot. One is a Tutti Frutti and they other appears to be Shades of Orange. It may be a bit late to plant it in the ground here so I may just keep it in a large pot until next year. It was a nivce way to end a hectic shopping trip.

What a great shopping trip for you. My wm supercenter still has the record as one of the worst ever when it comes to plants that a person might enjoy as a hummer attracter. I was here when it was just a regular wm and was there when it moved and became the super center. Penny maybe you should go back and ck again for more hummer plants.

I was outside today long enough to do the trimming and plant those lucifers in the ground and I was so wet[from the humidity] my clothes were all drippping and not just my shirt. Had to immediately take a shower, wow! No wonder just looked, temp 81 , humidity 76%

This was the only good hummer plant that they had. Basically they had daisies, asters and coneflowers and then the one big display table of the agastache. I really didn't need another plant but since they just came in yesterday and they were still in such good condition, I couldn't pass it up. WalMart Management will tell you straight outh that they are not a nursery, they are a department store that sell plants. I buy very few plants at WM unless I can get them when they first arrive and are still healthy.

Our Wal-Mart is great at the beginning of the season. That's where I always buy my Salvia Black & Blue. They have lots and lots in early spring for very little money. When I walked thru the garden center earlier this week there's almost nothing left. I've wanted just a few filler plants for my pots and haven't seen anything there.

They have great prices on pots. I've bought several really pretty nice large pots. I can't think of what you call them, but they are the kind that look like clay or stone but are very lightweight. They've held up really well for several years.

Ok a given. My kroger is a grocery that sells plants but I have bought more plants from them than wm. I just wish they[wm] would get some decent plants in once in a while.

Glad some WMs have hummer plants, the ones in this area just have the same old plants you see everywhere and Lowes and Home Depot are not much better.

Normally our WM never has anything except the common stuff like geraniums, impatiens, etc. This is the first time I have seena any agastache at a WM up here. They didn't have many plants as it is the end of the season but I think they probably just wanted something in the garden center for the grand opening of the store so they brought in enough to fill a small area in the tropical area.

Little do they know if they brought in the right plants they could do a good business just on plants alone.

Very true Steve but think about all the people who just want to plant those pots of geraniums and flower beds full of impatiens there are a lot more of them unfortunately than there are of those of us looking for hummer nd butterfly plants. Even many of the local nurseies cater to the hanging basket and 6 pak crowd. I took a full page list of hummer plants in to one nursery earlier this year. Only time will tell if it makes a difference at all. I plan to send the same list to another nursery owner that also wholesales to many of the local garden centers and he does grow a few hummer plants. He may be my best bet of getting these plants into the local market
