A Dance and a little extra

Sorry that its nothing that I captured, but lately Ive been seeing the side to side [shuttle] in front of females. But today I saw a little extra just briefly. I watched this female land and rest in a black and blue plant and as I watched here comes this adult male rather slowly and parks himself right on top of her, no sooner does he land on her and off she goes. All this happened so fast that Im not exactly sure what I saw, I know what I thought I saw, but isnt it rather late for another brood. Comments!

Hmmm. A little hanky panky in the Black & Blue?

I just read in Birds of North America Online that there have been reports of nest construction and egg laying as late as mid August in Ohio, and even September 2nd in Ontario. Wow! I had no idea they could be breeding that late this far north, although I suppose it's pretty atypical. I wonder if those babies survived that were hatched in late August and early September. I guess it all depends on the weather in the late summer and fall.

So, sounds like it's totally possible that she could be nesting again in mid July.

Kristin

If its true and this bird nests it can only mean dividends for me in the form of even more birds in late august/ sept than Ive had before. Ok, whats the time frame for nesting again , how long does it take. I was thinking in the area of 18-22 days, how far off am I.
