I like it when.....

I am sitting under a hanging basket of flowers or some Honeysuckle on the swing and one comes in and you can feel the wash of air from the wings on your face, I just lean back and watch.

Here is a pic from the underside when it is happening, the pic isn't the greatest but when you put it in the right context and imagine air from the wings cooling your face it works for me, I was too close to get anymore in the picture, I had to slowly lean right down on the bench to get the pic.

I can relate but not this year. Year before last I had them buzzin that close that you could feel the air flow from their little wings. It really was an awsome experience.

I'll play... I like it when...

...the hummingbirds stretch and "shrimp" (Is there an official, ornithological term other than "stretch" for this behavior?). It's almost as if they transform briefly into another, completely different life form. I see these contortions often, but they stop me dead in my tracks and make me run for the camera or binoculars every time. [linked image]

Fantastic captures!!!

I like it when the hummers zip in near dusk to their favorite feeder, then suddenly realize I'm sitting underneath it. They zip around in a confused, indecisive manner until they make up their mind to zoom off abruptly or gradually settle in to sip, then perch, frequently jerking their heads up to see if I've moved an inch. If I twitch or (heaven forbid) sneeze, they'll let out a series of offended chirps and immediately zip off to check out the feeders in back. [linked image]
