I kind of think the hummers are all most like people if you got a large flowering garden of thier choice.They will go to thier favorite flower in the garden.We pick out the food we want to eat at the buffet resturant.If you just have one or just two plants they may not return as much as a large choice garden.People in my town are saying I have not seen them this year.But I have been seeing one or maybe two anytime of the day so.But I have a larger garden this years of thier favorites.

That's really true. We offer a large variety of different flowers and feeders to our hummingbirds and we never know what they will choose. Some hummingbirds never learn to use feeders and will always go to flowers. And some hummingbirds might prefer a certain color of flower too. That's why it's so important to offer a "buffet" to keep your hummingbirds coming back, knowing they have their choice and knowing that they can find what suits their fancy. We have many hummingbirds, adults included, that use flowers that aren't even supposed to attract hummingbirds (maybe there are a lot of insects in those flowers---who knows?) The more flowers you have, the better. We have really tried to get rid of a lot of our grass---grass has nothing to offer to a hummingbird in terms of food or shelter---flowers and thick shrubbery are always better.

Eldon, enjoy your hummingbirds and your garden this summer and early fall. Glad to hear that your activity has really picked up and we know that it will really increase in the next few months.

My nieghbnors spends alot of money on thier yards plus mowing two times a week.Right now I care less on my yard as long as the grass is not too tall.Next year I may even inlarge my garden behind the house.That is where I am seeing them all the time it is more quite no street or people traffic.Oh,they love the black and blue salvieas the three potted ones on the deck behind the house.
Of what I have this year is weilglea bushes ,black and blue salvieas,red salvieas, cannas, croscomieas lucifers,tropical hibicus and that is it .The beattle bugs do not bother the salvieas I have notice so far this year.I enjoy having this forum get good information or seek help if possiable.Thanks for your response..
