The bromiliad I have come to find out is Aechmea distichantha, native to Brazil but planted hereabouts as a garden plant.

Bromiliad

Hello Peter,

Stunning picture! I have a brom that's been in the patio with filtered sun but looking like it was ran over by an 18 wheeler. sad.gif Although it does have 3 pups on the side. Would you please share the growing conditions of yours? Full/part sun? Watering requirements? Size of pot? Should you separate the pups so they get larger or leave them alone? Thanks!

Sandra I have several of these (they were here when I arrived) and they´re growing in the ground. Since the house is in cloud forest they don´t get much sun except in July. I think they´re a high altitude plant in their native Brazil. The ground they´re in certainly never gets very dry. Temperature range is mid fifties to mid sixties.

Hi Peter,

Maybe I'll try to plant one of the pups in the ground and see what happens. Thanks!
