I see more than one bird on a feeder. This morning there were two hummers on the feeder. Unlike Frank and some others, I never see this until southward migration begins. It is a bittersweet time as I see more hummers but know they will soon be gone for five or six months.
Well...LOL...at this point, I'll take an extremely late northbound explosion or an early southbound migration. I just finally put up our feeders after I took them down the 2nd week of June..

Sorry, Penny. Susan Louise, after just having one regular hummer all spring I had taken down all of my feeders except the little Wal Mart feeder on the back porch. Just a couple of weeks ago I put up a bigger feeder. It has been a disappointing year for a lot of us.
I would love to have one irregular hummer! I guess you get what you can. I think it has been a disappointing spring and summer looking at banding numbers in general. I really hope the winter season will be better than last year's.
We need to pray for a mild tropical storm season....a few strategically placed thunderstorms for you all in the south and no hurricanes would be ideal for the migration.

I get excited to see one then think he is staying and then he or she goes and my hopes are dashed that I will have one stay around even in September...Am thinking this is such a different year none of my expectations have any relationship to reality....
None of my expectations have been realized either Carol. In fact I am already planning my garden for next year. I just dug up all the very short blooming short black (really dark purple) irises in fron of the mail box post. I transplanted 3 there last year and had at least a dozen this year and they were already starting to reproduce again. Haven't decided what will go in there but it has to stay about 12-18 inches and only gets morning sun....hmmmm.
