when you don't have hummers...

Well, here's some more garden shots. By this time of the year in my hood we're starting to think about migration as well as hurricane possibilities.. The gulf has been very quiet and my fingers are crossed. My garden is ready; I even added another mister, called a cobra. Got it at Home Depot for $10. Of course I bought the red one.

when you don't have hummers...

August 15 2009, 2:00 AM

...you keep planting and planting and planting...to the point where guests have to bend in half and crawl through a tunnel of flowers to get from your backyard to your side yard.

Joan, as accomplished as you've become with a camera, your pictures really don't do justice to your yard. I've never seen so many "flowers per square inch," and more than half the plants aren't even in bloom yet! Any hummer lucky enough to stumble into your yard is going to think he died and went to heaven!

JOAN,

Just a lovely sight, or maybe I'm dreaming.....lord knows no one should be awake at this hour.

BTW......I'm knocking at your front, nix that, back door with a bottle of wine and my bathing suit, How about we take a soak and talk flowers?

Joan
How do you like that Cobra? I have been eyeballing them all season. HD had them a few years ago and they went down to $5 at the end of the season and when I went to get one they were gone then they didn't have them the past two years. I am glad they brought them back.

I am really hoping for a unevenful migration weatherwise so that these little ones are able to make it to their wintering grounds and back again next spring. Another season like this and our hummer population will be nil.

Lizette, unfortunately, for a hummer to stumble into my yard he has to leave your yard first and I don't think any hummer would be compelled to leave your buffet.

Pam, come on over, I'll make some snacks.

Penny, it has some limitations. I didn't see one till 2 days ago and my husband is the one who pointed it out. $10 seemed reasonable since by the time you buy a bird mister and have it shipped the price goes up. It has 2 misters and puts out a more forceful spray, but you can't clip it up high, just perch it somewhere. I'll give it some time; by the end of the season I may get another for the side yard. Did you hear the water bill go whoosh?

Joan, I was watching the TWC this morning and things are starting to ramp up in the Atlantic. We certainly need a tropical system to bring us some rain in northern AL and GA. I pray for the hummers and all of you on the gulf coast that we don't have land falling hurricanes.

We do need rain, just not all at once.

you can just keep on hoping, cause your garden Joan, deserves to have the best hummer visits for sure, with all those lush plants.

Keep on hoping and looking...

Your yard reminds me of mine - hummer delight - but where are the hummers? I am not fussing too loudly because I have around 6 and I know some don't have any. But, since planting so many hummer plants I am used to having more at this time of year.

Well, I'm not used to having any so when one does come by I am over the moon. They're all at Lizette's!
