Finally developed the last of the film..

Been awhile since posting, but I've been popping in and enjoying your pictures and posts every week or so. Summers are a bit tough for birdwatching for me-it's up to 114 out on my balcony, and my hummers (wisely) feed early in the morning (while I'm still sleeping) or in the evening (while I'm working). I just rinse and refill the feeders 2-3x a week.

Thank goodness it's starting to cool, and there seems to be a lot of activity going on again. Don't know whether it's another batch of juveniles or some early migrators. I might have a chance to actually learn to use the digital camera. [linked image]

Anyway, I finally got around to getting these 35mm fotos done from last April. Just a couple of "my" fledglings who nest in the olive tree across the driveway. My balcony seems to be a good flight training spot, rest area and snack bar. [linked image]

OMG Dana! That second pic is just amazing!! It looks like you plopped 2 hummers down and shot their pic, we know better. A caption is def needed here. The setting is perfect.

Also, is that Bougainvillea in your first picture? I see you like this plant also![linked image]

Dana,

I just had a chance to drop back on and I had to look at this pis again, mind if I steal it for a background for my laptop? It really appeals to me.

Hi Pam, Fran!

Yes, its a bougainvillea. Its about the only thing (other than the cacti/succulants) that can handle the heat and still bloom during the summer on that balcony! And its a good hummer attractor. Everything else just kinda pants and goes dormant or worse. In a couple of weeks I can add ferts to the other plants, and I'll get growth and blooms all the way to January. Gotta pick up some cheap annuals to plop in an empty pot or two to have a little color and a nectar snack for the migrators.

Thanks so much for the kind words about the pics! Yes, the best caption I could think of is the "Maybe if we ignore her she'll go away..." . Be fun to see if someone could come up with some other ones. At that age they seem to have no fear of me- I could probably touch them, but don't.

And Pam, I'd be very happy to let you "steal" it for your laptop!

Dana,
I agree, that second picture is great, and an unusual capture. And, I think your caption fits it perfectly!

Dana, I love both of the pics! Like Pam, I want to save them to my computer or use it as a backdrop! Just love them!

Hi Carla, I agree the second picture is really precious. It reminds me of two old friends meeting for coffee and talking about the past. [linked image]

P.S. I like the first one too...

Lol, thanks all! I think perhaps they were nestmates. It seems the fledglings all like to hang out there on the balcony. Its about 60 feet from the nesting olive tree-an easy flight-and I'm sure the mama lets them know its safe.[linked image]
