Hi all!
Sorry for my absence lately as I have been crazy busy in the summer as usual. I saw 4 hummers in one view today so I know they are migrating thru. They have been zipping around like crazy lately . My adult male left about two weeks ago. So here are some garden pix from this year, I started working on the new pond this summer which will become quite a project. I hope to fill it with water next season.
For Dianne H , Janelle B, and Sandra T. , I have the Scarlet Trumpetvines seeds ready for tomorrow's mail ,they have gone thru their cold treatment. Sorry for the delay and enjoy ! They are wonderful vines !
Here are some garden pix from this season :
Patio view - Potted stuff / vines in the background are Mina lobata and Purple Hyacinth Bean
Pergola & Patio- I have some young Campsis growing in there and Lonicera & Purple Hyacinth Bean
Main Garden- The usual suspects , all the Bee Balm is finished by this time , Lobelias & Cannas still going strong.
Cabanna/Patio- the steps follow down to where the pond will be. I have some new Orange blooming Cannas that I love to death, you can see one there
To anyone who is local , I have free Red Trumpetvine starter plants (see seed exchange for photo) If you want any . They are the same variety I gave Ward for Palmyra Cove grounds. You will need to stop by and get them , they are doing well and will need to go into the ground soon. I am in New Brunswick , just let me know.. Stephen
Wow, that is a beautiful garden! How do I know when the hyacinth bean seeds are ready to harvest? This is the first year I've grown it. The hummers do seem to love it. I strongly suspect it is growing at least a foot a day. Gorgeous thing.

Stephen, Stephen, Stephen!
Where have you been? We thought we had lost you! Your garden as always is spectacular and I am just green with envy. The new pergola is gorgeous with the vines growing up the posts. It is a good thing I don't live close by because I would be camping out on that patio! I am really glad to have you back!

We have missed you! I posted a thread looking for you a month ago and saw your phototrail was not linking anymore. Glad to see you were just busy in the garden. I am going to take you up on your offer of a seedling or 2, if only to just get a closer look at that garden! Well done! Great idea using the Hyacinth bean on the arbor poles, it does like to climb straight up! I have one plant that shot off the trelliss and up the down spout, the hummers used it all summer. I'll email you as I may have a few specimens for trade.
Thanks all for your kind words and sorry I have been absent !
I tend to drift from this forum in the summer.
Anyhoo Pam I am around all day today thru Sunday if you want to come over. I am getting rained out from going into the pond project for now , hopefully the weather will clear and I can get out there again but we need the rain . If you email me I can give you my address. (colubris@optonline.net)
The Purple Hyacinth Beans will form a purple bean pod , then ripen and the pod turns brown and shrinks, you can harvest them then and inside there will be beans that look like little Oreo cookies.

Wow! I'm speechless! What a paradise you have created for yourself. Wish I was in the neighborhood. Sure would love to come hang out and experience this in person. Great job!
Stephen, you did give me trumpet vine but sadly a squirrel got to them.
Your subrotunda bed is amazing this year. The Canna were doing great until the deer noticed them in early August. A few have survived.
There is a new rather interesting greggii seedling out in the median. Huge by greggii standards red flowers with a black calyx. It must have made it through our hard winter so it is probably hardy. If the cutting take I will pass it along next spring for testing.
Your garden looks great as always.
Stephen, I told them you would be back, but they had no faith.

Ward I would def. be interested in your Greggi ,
By the way your purple Ark Rd. #3 greggi was the best behaved of all the woody Salvias you have given me this year and past years. I am uploading a photo of it now I will post tonight.
Stephen, Ark Rd #3 came up as a seedling on the northeast side of the house about 5 years ago. Because of the difficult conditions it remained a spindley thing with few flowers. The thing was, it just wouldn't die. I am pleased it responded well for you as it did for me once it was given better treatment. Eventually it will need a better name. As you know I live on Ark Rd and it was the 3rd greggi/microphylla seedling I ever had here. Considering the small space the plant is in be glad you didn't get Ark Rd Pink which becomes a large five foot across multi-stemmed terror. It is a seedling of microphylla San Carlos Festival and the other parent was probably Salvia Raspberry Delight. It blooms better for me than San Carlos Festival and seems a bit hardier.
