Continuing into the abandoned pit (used to be an old swimming pool) I built this raduis bed this summer. Just a form and the poured concrete . I used old bricks to cap it off. I put a bed of blazing salvias in there, including some goodies Ward gave me . Ark Rd. #3 Greggi is the purple bloomer in there , the rest are coccineas and Cherry Chief.
Start with the form , I anchored rebar into existing walls:
making the form:
I capped it with brick ,in tiered levels . Then added salvias , I think it will always be a salvia bed .its a small size and It's always full sun.
Next is the pond, The construction method is almost Identical to the radius salvia bed. I just dug about a foot down , and made for thicker walls and added more rebar and screening.I was able use the old wood and plywood materials from the Salvia bed project. The total depth will be over 3 ft.
I never measured the diameter but it's about 6ft. across tops.I have spacers up top to keep exactly 6" thick walls , a little wider down towards the ground. I will cap it in brick like the salvia bed. I plan on using a pond liner and there will be a small pool behind the pond that will waterfall into it. I still have some reading to do on the maintenance end of things but the const. us up to code for frost zones.
Not sure what kinda critters I will put in there but Im sure the wife will want Koi. I was thinking more like frogs and sunfish !

We could just go under the cover of darkness next spring and kidnap him. I will take him for a month and you can take him for a month then he can go back to Joizy and play with his garden cuz Lord knows he doesn't have much space left to create any more features in his yard LOL!

Penny , Sandy - There is a small chance my wife will divorce me...but I have to finish fixing up this house first. It could take several years before she has no use for me. By then I will be a broken-down horse and you will have no use for me either .
The kidnapping idea might be your best bet !
You guys are makin' me laugh! Perhaps he would prefer me and my garden in western PA. I have this waterfall/waterlily pool idea that would be just the thing, if only I had a little help..... Stephen, we could work together, equal partners, none of this kidnapping or slavery sort of stuff that my rivals are contemplating. Now wouldn't that be fun?
NO NO Kristin! Sandy and I have first dibs. You will have to be third man er woman down and I am pretty good at working side by side too...no slave labor in my yard.

Where is he in Joizy? I'm thinking I'm closer, so he could head on over here and stay for several months, at least, and see how it goes. Heck, he might fall in love and decide to stay permanently. Or, if it didn't work out, western NY isn't so far, and then maybe on to MI. I'm just trying to provide him with options.
Does that sound like a plan, Stephen? Then again, there's that wife of yours to consider.
Hey all of this talk of me working is making me tired !
Seriously if I move anywhere it will be to the sunbelt zone 8 or higher , I think Penny would agree . LA,TX,NM,AZ,CA. pick any one of those and I'll start digging ponds !
Hey Stephen, do you play golf? Or tennis? We've got those right next door and it's warm enough to play all winter. Do you like Buff-bellied hummingbirds? There will probably be some Buffies here to pass commentary on your work but don't worry, they're a lot fussier than I am!
I don't need a husband, I just need a pond. Heck, you could even bring the wife along. Can she cook?
Stephen
I would take just about anyone of those locATIONS. oF course I love La. and AZ is right up there at the top of the list. It does get a bit warm but I am already conditioned to heat so I wouldn't have to be acclimated.

OK, Penny, you can come too! Stephen, wanna build a guest house?
Hmmm,
I seem to be in high demand here - Sandra and Lizette offer excellent warm -weather options with a couple of different hummer species thru-out the year...but Patricia in Costa Rica is in hummer paradise. Would you believe I saw 30 species of Hummingbirds in CR in 5 days !?
Sorry all but me thinks I'm off to Costa Rica ! Pacific slope , have tools and passport , get that rice a-cookin' Patricia !
If Patricia gets cold feet I will see what I can work out with Pitter !
HMMMM....well I have lots of rice and beans and sausage too but alas no hummingbirds to sweeten the pot nor any tropical breezes to sway that hammock! I sure can't come anywhere near topping 30 different species of hummers if I lived two lifetimes.
