What's Blooming September 16th --> September 30th (Please include zone)

I don't know how much sense this thread makes this late in the year, especially for northern folk like me. Most everything that was blooming in August is still blooming. The Tithonias are in their glory, and I saw a hummingbird buzzing around near them but didn't actually see him take a sip.

Are there plants that only just start to bloom now in the southern states? It might be interesting to hear about them.

There are a couple of plants that never bloomed for me this season--Ruellia chartacea, and Brunfelsia nyctaginoides. I'll be bringing them inside in another month as the weather gets cold and will try to overwinter them indoors as houseplants. Maybe I can get them to bloom next year. I think both hold promise as hummingbird plants.

OK, that's pretty much it for my zone 6 garden. Nothing much exciting here in southwestern PA as the season winds down.

I have a few things just starting and a lot to bloom later on since I am catering to a winter visitor. Just in bloom:

Salvia Confertiflora
Dwarf red vervain. I started some seeds this spring from my original plant and now have 8 pots of it after giving away about a dozen.
Manettia Rubra
Cuphea cyanea (We found a vendor! Nancy and I also bought 3 other varieties of cupheas. Will post pictures when they bloom.)
Salvia Leucanthas are peaking
Ugly Shrimp

Later bloomers:

S. Iodantha
S. Madrensis
S. Involucrata
S. purpurea 'lavender lace'
S. elegans 'pineapple sage'
S. Raven -I think this is a cross of Mexicana and Involucrata
Calliandra haematocephala (I think)
Cuphea Micropetala

I just moved Linda's post over to this one since all but Linda's post were on this thread.

Kristin, My zone 6b garden tells about the same story as yours. Most things past their glory but still sporting a few blooms; salvia black and blue, coral nymph salvia, a few on the butterfly bush and porterweed. Surprsingly to me my coral bells are in a second full bloom after being deadheaded about a month ago. The cuphea David Verity, cardinal climber and morning glory are full and lush. The potted coral porterweed I over-wintered is just now sending up a flower stalk.

Hostas, salvias B&B and coccinea, butterflyweed, butterfly bush, purple coneflower. Usually Hibiscus coccinea would be going, but it was set back this year by the cool wet weather.

I have lots still blooming in my garden and the hummers are using all of it!! I have B&B salvia, Hot lips salvia, some red salvia (I do not know the name, just got it at walmart this spring) , miniature zinnias and purple runner beans.
I am amazed to see all the flowers still flourishing and hummers still coming. I am often not even home almost the entire month of September and when I do return home, my DH has ripped out all the plants and tilled my hummer garden to make it ready for the next spring.

I took a couple of pictures a day or so ago...and will post them in a few minutes. I had already started this post before I realized I hadn't even taken the photos off the camera yet...lol, it's too early in the morning and I need more coffee first!

There have been 3 plants that have reached their end...Nicotiana Mutabilis, 'Apricot Sprite' Agastache and 'Rosita' Agastache. All the other plants still are blooming strong...even our honeysuckles which have oodles of berries ripening for the birds.

there are 2 plants that are just starting to bloom like crazy during this past week...'Stan Dreamsicle' Salvia and 'Golden Delicious' Sage...

My Salvia reptans W. Texas form has finally bloomed! Yesterday 09/23 it just exploded into bloom. It is 4 weeks later than last year. I was beginning to think it wasn't going to bloom this year.

Im in the same vote as a lot of northern gardeners , most everything is still blooming somewhat, as approved by the first hummer I have seen in days which appeared out of no where and continued to sip from all in bloom without even attempting to go to a feeder. At this point I have to give credit to the only mature greggii plant I have that is blooming its everloving a__ off. It was labeled autumn sage and also the cuttings from said plant are also doing well. Also after looking at the 10 day forecast I see one overnight forecast to be very near freezing, did I actually say that ,,,, freezing!

For the first time in many years I am not growing Salvia Waverly and I miss it. It was always grown with purple flowered New England Asters and the combination was supernatural. The garden is just partying harder and harder, too bad there are only occasional hummingbirds now.
