I know you have all talked about how praying mantis can terrorize a hummer, but I never saw it.

Well lately I have!

I have 3 wally world feeders in the back yard. One is attached to my plant window the other hangs from the patio cover and the third is in a hanging fushia plant.

Well lately my little green mantis has been hanging out on those feeders! The first time he was on the feeder that hangs from the cover, but into a garden meister fushia.

Here is a pic of the little devil on the feeder in the hanging basket!

Sort of menacing? After I took this pic I gently watered the plant and nudged him off the feeder so I could take it down.

That is how he sits too!

I haven't seen a hummer challenge him, don't think I would want to.

Can they harm a hummer?

Yes, that lady looks like she has nasty intentions!! I'm glad you moved her elsewhere...let her eat bugs, not hummers.

Hello Laura,

I had my husband relocate 6 from the end of August throught the middle of September. I had added a pic to a thread in the Butterfly Forum of one of them chowing down on one of my fav butterflies (A Cloudless Sulphur) a week or so ago...[linked image] [linked image] [linked image]

I seldom see preying mantids but when I do it seems they are always close to a feeder. Like Susan Louise, I send them on their way.

Laura,

"Can they harm a hummer? "

The answer to your question is a definite YES! Keep them off the feeders. If you google the 2 you will seee pics of PM's eating hummers. Not pretty!
