Hummers aren't the only late migrants

I was sitting on the porch about an hour ago enjoy our one and only day of sunshine and fair weather when a Monarch butterfly flew over to the butterfly bush which though somewhat battered by yesterday's high winds is still loaded with blooms. Later I found a yellow fuzzy caterpillar on a piece of styrofoam that had been blown into the back yard by yesterdays winds.

Seems to be lots of slowpokes around these days.

I think so Dianne. I just saw the monarch again out on the Butterfly bush. I am sure glad I kept pinching off the faded blooms.

Hello Penny,

I took pics of 2 Monarchs in our garden yesterday. We had several varieties still in our gardens yesterday...Orange Sulphurs, Painted Ladies, a Silvery Checkerspot, 2 Cloudless Sulphurs, a Summer Azure and many Skippers. The temp reached the low 70's yesterday. We had them as late as Oct 26th here last year because it was so much warmer right through til November. We didn't have a hard freeze til the evening of November 4th. I even took my last butterfly pic on that day of a Cloudless Sulphur.
As for today, not even a fly buzzing around...temp is in the mid 40's and raw today...Brrrrrrrrrrr
