Just Saw A Hummer!!

We thought our last two hummers had departed yesterday. Since it is only 45 degrees today and our first frost is expected tonight, this was not unexpected.

However, today while on the computer I saw a juvenile Rubythroated hummingbird chasing a Chickadee outside of our window.

I guess it's not over yet. Woohoo!

Kathi,

I know what you mean. I thought I saw my last one on Sep 23rd and put my 300 mm lens away along with all the props(makeshift tripods) that I had placed near the window. Last week I had to drag everything out again. I may wait till the middle of Oct now.

Enjoy their antics!

Just Saw a Hummer!

Despite our first hard freeze last night, we still have two hummers in our yard today (Saturday, October 10)! It's not over 'til it's over!! It will get much colder tonight, so it will be interesting to see if they will be on their way south at dusk.

September 28th. That's the last time I saw one. My lonely feeder is still hanging outside the window, with the sugar water level unchanged. I suppose I could get a surprise, but if I do, it would be my first October hummingbird, ever, in western PA.

Enjoy them while they're here! I hope they skedaddle before the snows start falling in earnest.

I still have one female, here for 5 days now. She is not very plump, but the temperatures are going to dip soon, so I expect her to head out any day now. The last hummer I saw in 2008 was on October 11, so I would love to see a later hummer this time.
