I just put some monarda in the ground 2 weeks ago and have been watering it with my well water and it looks like the leaves are turning dark almost purple they still look healthy. I have well water in the front of the house and city water for my back spigot just wondering if all that rust from the well water is bad for my plants. The two types of monarda are jacobe cline, and purple rooster don't if its normal for them to turn that color or if it's the water. Thanks Erik

Erik,

Monarda usually have some leaves that get dark like that, especially in the spring when they are just beginning to grow. They seem to do that when they are adjusting to brighter light and/or cooler temperatures than they are accustomed to. They should be ok. A lot of salvias and cupheas do that, too.

That is a normal thing. They typically do get some coloring around the edges. As far a the well water, I think it would be okay to water your plants with it as long as the rust isnt in great quantities. BTW once your beebalm is established you shouldn't have to water it anyways because its a native plant.
