Eldon,
Can you try adding a shepards hook to a garden area that gets afternoon shade? That may be enough shade to get it through the hot periods.

Hanging pots are beautiful, but I dislike watering them because of my bad back, and hitting my head on them if I hand them lower. Right now I have one and it will probably be repoted. Than again, I like the shepard hook idea and maybe will stick it in the gardens! I need to go vertical in my gardens, no more room in the beds.

I usually hang my Fucshias on a shepherd's hook in an out of the way semi shady area close to the house. where it gets morning sun but afternoon shade. This year I am putting in a planter pot with more room for the roots and more soil to keep the roots moist. Also in morning sun and afternoon shade it isn't bothered by Japanese beetles which do sometimes go to it if it is full sun.

I also like the sheperds hook idea. Im not into the trailing fuschias but if I could find a more upright one I might buy it.

I have hooks for the hanging baskets on my deck, and I have hung the other fuchsia baskets from tree branches. The tree provides shade and some protection from wind. Though, I must say that we've had some high winds, and the fuchsias have been fine. They root VERY easily in water, so I'd just do that if you lose some branches.

Most species fuchsias are upright, at least the ones I have. I have [too] many from this list w/ photos:

It's tougher to find the species. I get most of mine from University plant sales, but you can find some from online retailers. I much prefer the species to the fluffy hybrids, and I think that the hummers do, too.
